Imagine driving down a road and coming to an intersection where the only obvious choice it to turn left (because driving forward leads to a dead end). Straight ahead and slightly to left is a barren, concrete field. The only thing breaking the horizon is a small, four-story building. "What is that place?" you ask yourself... It's such an unusual sight. This building has character. And that character lies in its oddity. This building is a fireman's training tower, or it was years ago. Evidently, my friend and I missed the firehouse it belonged to (it was torn down years ago).
It was a hot summer day when we came upon this place, and we were lucky enough to run into a friendly man from the area. He told us about the building's past use and informed us about the demolished firehouse. If it weren't for him, I would have no idea what the building was used for. There is nothing inside except litter and old clothes. The building is four stories high, and my friend speculates that firemen would practice running up the stairs in full gear while hauling fire-fighting tools and hoses. Attached to the building is a fire escape and odd chute-ladder. It doesn't take more than ten minutes to fully explore this small space, but its oddity incites many lingering questions. It truly was a sight to see.
Ironically, my friend and I saw a fire truck drive by as we explored the fourth floor of this structure...
