I have been fascinated with abandoned buildings for many years now. My first encounter involved a water treatment plant that had been abandoned fifty years. The Equadome (eck-wuh-dome) sat in the middle of nowhere and was completely surrounded by woods. It was an adventure unto itself just to get inside the place.

Upon my first visit to the Equadome I found my self consumed with fear and fascination, terror and excitement. I was spellbound, hooked from that night on. I returned every chance I got and was horrified to see it go in the summer of 98' (a sorry fate for too many wonderfully deteriorated buildings!)

It was a sad day the Equadome was lost, but I have since found many other abandoned buildings to explore. I actively search for buildings to explore, and often find myself envisioning otherwise operating buildings in their perfect state, abandoned. I truly have a passion for exploration and spend much of my time thinking, talking, and exploring abandoned buildings.

People often wonder what it is that attracts me to these buildings (as most people just see decaying eyesores), but this is not an easy question to answer. There are many things that attract me to abandoned buildings. While exploring I am often 'taken over' by the feelings I experience. There is an intimate sense of fear that accompanies almost every building I scour. When I start to feel the familiar dread well up within me, I begin to shake with excitement. There is something thrilling about not knowing what may or may not be around the next corner I turn.

Aside from the fear and excitement, abandoned buildings seem to be alive with character and tend to be packed full of interesting little odds and ends. From the cracked and peeling paint that often graces any given wall, to the outdated records and charts that litter any given room, there are oodles of interesting things to stumble across while exploring. Abandoned buildings spark my imagination and fill me with a sense of exhilaration. There is nothing I enjoy more than setting out to explore a newly found abandoned building.

I've put this page together as a homage to these fascinating structures. I often bring along a camera to document my explorations, and have decided to share with the world (or more appropriately with those involved with urban exploration) the pictures and stories I've brought back from the front lines.
